Brothers Divided
A Novel Of Intrigue

A Great Thriller -- for old folks too!

I purchased this book in Jerusalem (03/24/02). What a great thriller. I found myself as tense in places as I was when I read The Red October by Tom Clancy. After reading the book I noticed that inside the front dust jacket it reads: Ages 10-14. Don't believe it. Read this book and look forward to the next two books of a promised trilogy.

This is a fast-paced novel of intrigue. It deals with an American journalist who is caught up in the eternal journalistic dilemma: whether to remain an objective observer or to join forces with a group that promises to save many endangered lives. It takes place in Israel, under circumstances that are eminently believable. The "divided brothers" are secular and Orthodox Jews, left-wingers and right-wingers: The violence raging between them turns out to be part of an Iranian plot against the State of Israel. The novel's hero, Jon Warren -- The New York Times bureau chief in Jerusalem - is a non-Jew who was briefly married to an Israeli many years earlier. Working with the Shabak brings them together again. The subject matter, the level of the writing, and the book's appeal to idealism make it suitable for teenagers and young adults.
